Lego filled fun-fest (and Ben Fogle)

08 July

If you’ve been reading my blog you’ll know that yesterday was a day of great excitement, as I got to go with my sister and her family to the Lego Discovery Centre in Manchester for a day of fun with the delectable Ben Fogle. And what a great day it was!

Samuel showing Ben how to build a tree

Admittedly the LDC is quite small and has limited appeal to someone my age, the miniland (of lego models) is very nice, but quite small, and the rides are very much for young children (perfect for my 6 year old nephew and 4 year old niece though), non of that mattered because we were spending the day with a big pile of bricks an explorer!

After Ben said hello to each family individually, and congratulated the prize winners, the kids got to play on the rides for a few hours. The highlight of the day though was spending time building Lego with Ben and lots of other families. Several sets of the new Forest line were tipped on to the table and the kids were told to dig in. Each of them had to build something to put in the shop’s window display. It was all rather lovely, the kids all played well with each other, sharing parts, helping each other find a part they were looking for, and no arguments! Ben took time to look at what each child was building, and have his photo taken with them.

When they were done and we’d used nearly all the bricks on the table the builds were carried down stairs and the kids got to place them in the window display, they all loved being ‘in the window’, and the display ended up looking great %Lego minifigure Lego filled fun fest (and Ben Fogle)

The final part of the day was Ben telling us all a bed time story (no really!) He told us about some of his adventures, about stroking crocodiles and climbing mountains and had us all entranced! And then we all said goodnight to a wonderful day, that hopefully the kids will remember forever (I know the mums will!)

lol! I did make him one. He looked a bit perplexed! But said it would take pride of place (clearly lies!) I think he'll appreciate it more when his kids are older. I'm not sure he's got back into lego again, but he was saying he can't wait till they're old enough to have more than duplo. though I love duplo!
